IN TODAY'S METRO NEWSPAPER!

==CANADA OUT OF AFGHANISTAN!==

Since 2001, the government of Canada has claimed that
Canadian troops are in Afghanistan to “rebuild 
Afghanistan,” and defend “Canada’s national
interests.” However, Afghanistan now has the worst
education system in the world and the life expectancy
has dropped  by 4.5 years since 2001. Last week alone,
more than 300 people were killed there — including
many unarmed civilians. Canada’s mission is an
occupation.

The majority of people in Canada are now asking: whose
“national interests” are Canadian troops defending?
The military budget was doubled last year to $25.8
billion, while our education and health care systems
are perpetually underfunded — is this in our
interests? It’s time to demand that Canada get out of
Afghanistan.

Vancouver anti-war coalition Mobilization Against War
and Occupation (MAWO, www.mawovancouver.org) has
received strong support for the demand that Canada
leave Afghanistan, and the call for an independent
public inquiry. 

The majority of people in Canada disagree with the
government’s two-year extension of the mission in
Afghanistan.The more than 10,000 signatures that MAWO
has collected demanding Canada leave Afghanistan is a
good indication of that.
