Over 75 different Unions, religious organizations,
social justice groups, Latin American solidarity
groups, have come together to organize a rally and
march Saturday May 20th, at the Vancouver Art Gallery,
to demand HANDS OFF CUBA AND VENEZUELA! This rally,
happening on an international day of action, will
coincide with demonstrations in Winnipeg, Toronto,
Montreal, Washington DC, Los Angeles, and Seattle.

“People in Vancouver and all over North America are
increasingly concerned with the aggression that Latin
American countries such as Cuba and Venezuela are
facing from the United States government,” Coalition
representative Tamara Hansen said. “With the US
posting navel ships in Aruba, just kilometers away
from Venezuela, and tightening the economic blockade
against Cuba, the need to defend these countries’
sovereignty grows every day.”

Marysol Torres another organizer with the May 20th
coalition pointed out the increase in cooperation
between Cuba and Venezuela, especially in the areas of
social programs, health care and literacy. She said,
“Cuba and Venezuela represent a growing movement in
Latin America against US intervention, both
economically and militarily. This growth threatens US
control over the region.”

Tomorrow people in Vancouver will take to the streets
to protest along with people in cities around the
world to demand: “US Hands Off Cuba & Venezuela!”
