JULY 24th
12:30-1:30pm

U.S. Consulate
1095 W. Pender St. & Thurlow St.
(Downtown Vancouver)

On Monday July 24 caravanistas just returned from Cuba
with Pastors for Peace will gather with follow
Brigadistas leaving for Cuba with the Che Guevara
Volunterr Work Brigades alongside many other
supporters of the Cuban 5, in a protest to demand the
immediate release of the Cuban 5 from U.S. prisons.

For almost eight years now 5 Cuban men have been held
unjustly in U.S. jails. The five Cubans went to the
United States on a fact-finding mission in order to
infiltrate the activities of the right wing anti-Cuban
terrorist groups to prevent future attacks on the
people of Cuba.

The Cuban Five collected pages of evidence, linking
these Miami-based groups to attacks on Cuba and
presented it to the FBI.

However instead of arresting any of the terrorists
responsible for the deaths of over 3500 Cuban people
since 1959, the U.S. jailed these 5 anti-terrorist
Cubans. This unjust and cruel action of the U.S.
government has mobilized millions of people around the
world to demand the freedom of the Cuban Five.

At this stage in the battle, the Cuban Five are
waiting for a court decision on whether or not they
will be granted a re-trial. We are gathering for the
8th picket in 8 months to hear report backs from Cuba
on the incredible work being done there to free the
Cuban 5. At this time it is especially important for
us to mobilize in solidarity with the Cuban Five and
demand their immediate release.

Speakers will include:
**SOPHIE ZINER: Caravanista and organizer with the
Pastors for Peace Caravan to Cuba

**JANE IVANOVA: Brigadista and organizer with the Free

July 26th, a national holiday in Cuba marks the day
that Fidel and many young fighters launched their
first attack against the cruel U.S.-backed military
dictatorship of Batista.

Although this offensive with aims seize arms and end
the Batista regime was a failure, this would be the
day that brought hope to the Cuban people that they
could overcome and defeat this brutal dictator.

It is for this that every year we organize a day to
celebrate the past struggle in Cuba and the current
battle waged by Cuba for justice, humanity and against
U.S. Imperialism.

Organized by:
Social Justice Committee of the Unitarian
Church of Vancouver, Vancouver Communities in
Solidarity with Cuba (VCSC), and Free the Cuban 5
Committee-Vancouver
