In order to capture the worldwide era of war and occupation, and the
struggle of Us Vs. Them, the film festival is sectioned into five
themes:
Lessons & Leaders from History with the classic feature films
M*A*S*H and Dr. Strangelove as tribute to their recently departed visionary
directors Robert Altman and Stanley Kubrick AND films on revolutionary
leaders Malcolm X, Fidel Castro, and the Vancouver premier of a film about
the African revolutionary Thomas Sankara
Canada: Occupier Abroad and at Home with the North American premier
of End of the Land, a new documentary direct from Kabul, the world
premier of the MAWO-produced film Canada, Imperialist Abroad,
Imperialist at Home, plus films on Indigenous struggle within Canadas
borders, and more
Life and Struggle under Occupation with films about Iraq, Palestine
& Afghanistan. Featuring the Vancouver premier of the critically
acclaimed film Blood of my Brother, a story of death in Iraq.
Facing Down Imperialism with films covering those nations facing,
and standing up to the threat of imperialist war; Cuba, Venezuela,
Bolivia, Korea, Oaxaca Mexico, and more
Women and War a series of films that smash the stereotypes of women
as passive victims. These films show women as fighters against
imperialism, colonialism and oppression, as leaders and instigators of
change, in Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. Perhaps the most
critical and important section of the anti-war film festival.
The 4th Annual Anti-War Film Festival will also feature introductions
for each film from leading activists, organizers and community leaders.
We are proud to announce that three films will be introduced by their
directors, including:
>>Sobhi al-Zobaidi, Palestinian director of A Caged Birds Song, and PHD
>>candidate at Simon Fraser University. Jessica Anderson, director of
>>Occupier/Occupied: An American in Iraq will be attending the festival
>>from her home in Washington State and;
