The South Asian Network for Secularism and Democracy invites you to a
public meeting to join our crucial Campaign against Coca-Cola:
Unthinkable, undrinkable: Coca Cola in India
SATURDAY OCOTBER 29TH from 2-5 pm
SFU Harbour Center (515 West Hastings)
...including short film on SINALTRAINAL workers struggle against
Coca-Cola's crimes in Colombia.
WITH SPEAKERS:
* Alfredo Porras: Coca Cola worker in Colombia for 20 years, serving as a
union leader of and key negotiator of collective agreements. He has been
targeted, arrested and had an assassination attempt on his life.
* Dr. Gary Teeple: Professor of Sociology, SFU. He has been researching
and writing on neoliberalism, human rights, and political economy. He
will be speaking on corporate globalization and the global division of
labour.
* Harsha Walia: local activist and writer from India, supporting various
peoples struggles against corporate globalization and Coca-Colonization.
Coca-Cola's practices in India have resulted in extreme hardship for
communities, including severe water shortages, health problems, hunger and
a loss of income from farming. Peaceful demonstrations against Coca-Cola
facilities are increasingly being met with violence. At a broader level,
the violation of human rights by Coca-Cola globally highlights destructive
corporate domination that violates environmental justice, diminishes
labour standards, and exacerbates social and economic inequality.
Join us in this crucial Campaign against Coca-Cola for justice and dignity
for peoples' rights, for the construction of local alternatives to global
capitalism, including the rights of communities over their natural
resources, and to strengthen the growing resistance against the politics
of Coca Cola in India and around the world.
