On Saturday, November 19th at 2pm, people will be coming to the streets of
Vancouver to demand an end to the increased Canadian presence in
Afghanistan, as well as continuing to demand an end to the devastating US/UK
occupation of Iraq.

Following this action, MAWO will be hosting a conference on Sunday, November
20th from 10am – 6pm entitled "Canada: Imperialist Abroad, Imperialist at
Home." This conference will take place at the Britannia Center, on
Commercial Dr. and Napier St. Here, activists and organizers will analyze
and discuss the increased Canadian military presence around the world. They
will also discuss and explore tasks and perspectives for the future of the
anti-war, anti-occupation movement.

"First, we are mobilizing on the streets to voice our united opposition to
war and occupation, then getting together for a day-long anti-war conference
in order to discuss the important issue of Canada’s stepped up war drive at
home and abroad." said Kira Koshelanyk, Mobilization Against War and
Occupation Co-Chair. "This weekend of anti-war action unites us with people
struggling around the world against war and occupation–from Iraq to
Afghanistan to Haiti to Palestine."

Saturday’s rally will feature speakers connecting struggles against war and
occupation abroad with attacks on workers and trade unions in Canada—the war
at home. Lila Hackett, President of the Telecommunication Workers Union -
Local 50, has been a central organizer in the struggle against attacks on
workers’ rights by Telus in one of the most clear-cut examples of the war
that working people are facing at home.

"The coalition has already been active in organizing over 50 events this
year, including the upcoming third annual anti-war film festival in
December," said Alison Bodine, spokesperson for Mobilization Against War and
Occupation. "This weekend is part of our continuing organization and action,
which includes monthly rallies, conferences, and cultural events."
