In order to strengthen and possibly coordinate the work that various
groups and individuals have been doing around different aspects of the
SNC-campaign, we are calling for an open meeting on April 21. We have
booked classroom #2 on the third floor of Carnegie Centre at 7 PM on
Thursday, April 21st, and invite interested individuals to participate.
This meeting is being called by individuals loosely affiliated with
various organizations interested in working together to build a wide
campaign and resistance against SNC's war profiteering. Currently various
movements and organizations within the anti-war movement,
anti-corporate/anti-capitalist movement, Third world solidarity groups,
anti-privatization organizing, and a campaign to force the provincial
government to disinvest in arms merchants have expressed an interest and
have been working on building an anti-SNC campaign.
Given the ability to build a broad based resistance to SNC's actions from
the local RAV line and mining in indigenous communities, to bullet
contracts in Iraq and reconstruction and development contracts across the
Third World, a meeting to discuss and update each other on research,
actions, and future plans is crucial.
A "Take Down SNC" campaign has been launched in Montreal, Ottawa, and
Toronto. More information on the campaign and SNC can be found at
http://www.catapultcollective.org/index.php.
In Vancouver, there is similar interest to build a comprehensive campaign
to Take Down SNC, whose destructive and exploitative operations in
countries over the world are symbolic of the true nature of Canadian
policy at home and abroad.
