                    RALLY TO STOP THE DEPORTATIONS TO IRAN
             Support Iranian Refugees facing imminent deportation.

On Monday April 11th at 2:00pm infront of the immigration offices at 300
West Georgia, the International Federation of Iranian Refugees and No One
Is Illegal will be protesting the Canadian Governments policy to continue
deporting asylum seekers to Iran.  Canada has a double standard with
regards to their foreign policy and immigration policy that is putting the
lives of refugees at risk.  Several refugees facing imminent deportation
have decided to challenge the Canadian Governemt and Immigration Canada on
their policies.

While Alan Rock, has presented the case of human rights violations in Iran
at the United Nations earlier this year and after hearing testimony of Dr.
Shahram Azam on the horrific torture and brutal murder of Zahra Kazemi,
journalist and Canadian citizen of Iranian origin, the Canadian Government
feels that those fleeing the country after having their lives threatened,
being tortured and imprisoned can safely return.  Additionally, the case
of Haleh Sabha being deported back to Iran and immediately being detained
at the airport clearly invalidates the claims of Canadian and Iranian
governments that refugees face no persecution returning to Iran.

The cases of Haleh Sabha and Ali Reza have been important struggles for
many refugees currently facing deportation here in Vancouver.  The stay
order granted in Ali’s case not only demonstrates that the federal courts
have recognized the threat of being returned to Iran but that broad based
community support and public pressure is needed for all asylum seekers
struggling against the racist immigration policies here in Canada,
particularly after 9-11.

1)  The immediate implementation of a moratorium on deportations to Iran
by the Canadian Government.

2)  The Canadian Government grant status to all Iranian refugees.
