Five Thousand Sign Petition Against the Canadian Occupation of Afghanistan and Haiti!

OPERATION: CANADA OUT!

Mass Petition Drive:

Saturday June 5th

12noon to 6pm

Metrotown Skytrain Station

Sign the online petition demanding: CANADIAN TROOPS OUT OF AFGHANISTAN NOW!!! http://www.mawovancouver.org/petition.htm

June 5 will mark the 37th anniversary of the Israeli seizure of the West Bank, Gaza, Golan Heights and much of Egypt in the 1967 war for the colonial domination of Palestine. In the US, this will be marked with mass mobilizations in Washington DC, Los Angeles and elsewhere against the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the US-UK occupation of Iraq. At the same time here in Canada, MAWO is organizing a mass petition drive against the Canadian Governments moves to "put Canada back on the world stage" (Paul Martin) through war, occupation and the suppression, killing and torture of people in Afghanistan and Haiti.

The recent prisoner torture scandal in Iraq has challenged the legitimacy of all occupation and has raised peoples voices for self-determination from Iraq to Afghanistan to Haiti. For people in Canada, the role of Canada in the occupations of Afghanistan and Haiti has become increasingly important to oppose.

In response to Canada's escalated role in occupation, MAWO launched OPERATION CANADA OUT! on January 29th 2004. This campaign has gathered widespread support through petition drives at the University of Victoria, UBC, BCIT, Langara College, Capilano College, Emily Carr Institute of Design and outside the Vancouver Public Library. MAWO has consistently mobilized this growing opposition through public forums, film nights and mass demonstrations bringing hundreds of people into the streets against the coup in Haiti on March 7th and against Canadian occupation on April 24th. This support is signified in the petitioning, now reaching 5,000 signatures demanding, BRING THE TROOPS HOME FROM AFGHANISTAN AND HAITI NOW!

The 5,000 collected signatures demonstrate the demand from people in the Lower Mainland, echoing the call from people in Afghanistan and Haiti for an end to occupation and for self-determination.

Canada's occupation of Afghanistan and Haiti is in the interests of the Canadian government and corporations, not Afghan, Haitian or Canadian people. It is critical for us to always put Canada's occupations at the forefront of the anti-war movement in Canada.

At past petition drives, discussions have always begun with Canadian occupation abroad and come back to opposing the ongoing brutal occupation of Indigenous territory in Canada. And by opposing the Canadian occupation of Afghanistan and Haiti, we build upon and support the demands for an end to occupation and for self-determination for Iraq and Palestine.

MAWO encourages and welcomes you to get involved in this petition drive action to build the anti-war movement throughout the Lower Mainland.

END THE CANADIAN OCCUPATION OF AFGHANISTAN AND HAITI!

US - UK OUT OF IRAQ!

ISRAEL OUT OF PALESTINE!

SELF-DETERMINATION FOR INDIGENOUS NATIONS IN CANADA!
