United States Embassy Enclosed By Apartheid Wall
The STOP (State Terrorism and Occupation Prevention) Force the Wall Theatre
Company ä presented a special performance of The Wall: Coming Soon to a
Village Near You at the United States Embassy in Tel Aviv on Tuesday. The
show was in acknowledgement of the generous funding provided by the US
government to build the Apartheid Wall.
Fifteen black clad artists appeared out of nowhere promptly at 1:00 p.m. and
erected a fence in front of the Embassy gates. Security guards quickly
summoned the police, who told the players that they had to move across the
street. The theater group protested, But were doing this for your
security, the United States government thinks that security walls are a good
idea.
Eventually, the group moved across the street, where they informed passersby
that the area had been declared a Closed Antimilitary Zone. People
attempting to pass the gate were told, The gate is open only from 1:00 to
2:00 p.m. Come back tomorrow. When one brave soul mentioned that it was
between 1:00 and 2:00 at that time, the guard said, Well, it is not open
today, because this is a special day.
The fence was decorated with red, white and blue dollar signs and signs
saying, Ariel Is Not In Israel Stop the Wall, and The U.S. Government
Funds Apartheid. It also displayed a blank check signed by Dubya for
$2,000,000 to build 1 kilometer of the Apartheid Wall, which has separated
over 20,000 Palestinians from their farm land.
The presentation was organized by the International Womens Peace Service,
an international project based in Hares, Salfit, which is directly in the
path of the proposed Wall meant to annex Ariel into Israel. According to
one projection, the concrete wall will soon be built under the window of the
IWPS house in Hares.
Our neighbors have already lost over 100,000 trees to the illegal
settlement of Ariel, said Nijmie, from Pennsylvania. Only last week, more
than 50 trees were cut in Kifl Hares, across from Ariel. The Wall will
devastate this area. The Israeli government is simply planning to drive the
Palestinian people from their homes, so that they can claim all of the land
for Israel.
Activists from Australia, Britain, Israel, Canada and the United States
participated in the protest .
