Press Release:

Anti-Poverty Committee Calls for ‘All out against Gordon Campbell’

The Anti-Poverty Committee is organizing a demonstration this Friday, June
14th, at the Vancouver Art Gallery at 6 PM against Gordon Campbell’s
speaking engagement.

Gordon Campbell will be speaking at the opening of "Carr, O'Keefe, Kahlo:
Places of Their Own." The Anti-Poverty Committee is calling for a
demonstration because of the brutal policies the Campbell government is
using against poor and working people in BC. “Gordon Campbell’s policies are
severely hurting people in Vancouver. We don’t think he should feel welcome
to come here for public relations stunts like this without having to face
those who are being hurt by his policies,” said Lisa Warwik, an organizer
with the Anti-Poverty Committee. “Wherever he goes in BC, he should not feel
welcome, because of what he is doing to us.’

The Anti-Poverty Committee is a group that formed in January to fight the BC
Liberal agenda. The APC demands an end to all of the attacks on poor and
working people that are being committed by the BC Liberals: the training
wage, the cuts to welfare, the axing of the BC Human Rights Commission, the
cuts to funding for women’s shelters, the elimination of funding for new
social housing, the gutting of labour legislation, and all of the other
changes that negatively impact the people of BC. The Anti-Poverty Committee
has launched a Campaign to End the Training Wage and a Campaign against the
Welfare Cuts as parts of a broader campaign against the provincial
government.
