World Condemns Murderous Israeli Bombing

Ariel Sharon showed the world once again this week
that he is a war criminal, describing the Israeli
bombing in Gaza that killed at least 16, including 9
children, as a “great success”.   The murderous F-16
raid targeted Hamas military leader Sheikh Salah
Shahada, dropping a 1-ton bomb on an apartment
building, injuring over 150 in addition to the dead.

The Israeli attack came just a day after Hamas had
hinted at ceasing suicide bombings if Israel withdrew
from the West Bank and Gaza.  The timing shows that
the Israeli regime is not interested in halting the
violence; the brutality shows that they will continue
to use naked force to try and crush the Palestinian
resistance.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians demonstrated their
outrage at the attack, vowing to continue fighting the
military Goliath that occupies their land.  Meanwhile,
Israel was widely condemned for its action.  Swedish
Foreign Minister Anna Lindh accurately described the
bombing as a “war crime”, while UN secretary general
Kofi Annan used extreme understatement in saying that
Israel had failed in its “legal and moral
responsibility to take all measures to avoid the
innocent loss of life".

Even the White House was forced to admit the bombing
was “heavy-handed”, failing of course to point out
that this Israeli heavy-handedness would not be
possible without the U.S. made F-16 that dropped the
1-ton U.S. made bomb.

The Israeli regime, epitomized by the life-long war
criminal Sharon, continues to earn the comparison that
is increasingly being made with the racist apartheid
rule that lasted decades in South Africa.  History
shows that international solidarity can help to bring
down a racist, unjust system.  Join us in opposing the
occupation and fighting Israeli apartheid.
