July 20th, 2002 Rally and March in Vancouver
12:00 Noon, Vancouver Art Gallery
Protesting the Continuing Israeli Occupation and
Israeli Apartheid
The Palestine Solidarity Group will be holding a Rally
and March to protest the Israeli siege and the
repeated incursions into West Bank towns. As well,
the speakers will highlight the Israeli Apartheid
policies that aim to control and terrorize the daily
life of the Palestinian people. From the routine
indignities and humiliations of the military
checkpoints, to the mass arrests, killings and
curfews, the daily life of Palestinians is continually
worsening.
Reem Alnuweiri, who recently returned from
co-ordinating a International Popular Defense for
Palestine delegation to Palestine, says "The
situation on the ground calls for immediate
international action. The Israeli fascist practices
have extended to all aspects of Palestinian life. To
deter Palestinians from their struggle for national
liberation, the Israelis are trying to force an entire
population into starvation and humiliation, through
apartheid policies, massive arrests, indiscriminate
killing, weeks of curfews with no more than 6
hours/week breaks, shootings to declare curfews rather
than announcing them, separating families by not
allowing workers to cross checkpoints, sexual
harassment, confiscation of lands, uprooting tens of
thousands of productive trees, demolishing homes,
burning houses, and above all, allowing settlers and
soldiers to commit these crimes and never charging
them in court."
The Palestine Solidarity Group is calling for a Rally
and March, to protest these atrocities, and to express
solidarity for the Palestinian people and their
resistance.
