Hey folks,
Its official, ireland's first (that we know of) consent weekend will be
happening September 9th-11th in the Rossport Solidarity Camp house in
Barnacuille, Pullathomas.
We'd ask people to try and arrive by the friday night so everyone can eat
together and get acquainted a bit, then workshops/discussions will be
saturday and sunday, prolly finishing off early enough on sunday so people
who need to can get home.
It will be pretty informal, considering that there are no experts here.
We're all just people who are interested in consent and want to create a
space where it can be explored in more depth.
Some discussions/workshops that have been suggested so far:
Alcohol and how it plays a part in giving and receiving consent
Queers and consent
Polyamory, fluid or non-traditional relationships and consent
Power and privilege
Body image and consent
Kink, BDSM and consent
Controlling and abusive relationships within our community
Consent in non-sexual situations
Survivors of sexual trauma (being and being partnered with)
Consent in long-term relationships vs. more casual encounters
Thats a lot already, but if anyone has any ideas for discussions they
wanna add, give a shout. We might not get to every subject seeing as we
only have a weekend, but once we're all together we can decide as a group
what we want to prioritise, what people have the most interest in.
We'll need people to facilitate the discussions/workshops, so if you have
a particular interest in any of these subjects get in touch to sign
yourself up.
We feel that if people are interested in participating, they should be
part of the weekend as a whole. This way we can kind of bond as a group
and have a bit of cohesiveness, rather than have people from the camp in
and out the whole weekend. However we thought it'd be nice to have one
workshop prepared as pretty basic 'Introduction to consent' which anyone
from the camp can attend without participating in the whole weekend.
Perhaps that could be a friday night thing to start things off? Dunno we
can work that out later.
Any input to the planning is appreciated. Let us know if you might need
childcare for the weekend, or any other special needs!
Hopefully we can keep this first event relatively small, like 10-15
people. This will be more manageable seeing as none of us have ever done
anything like this before! And just as a reminder the consent weekend will
be open to all genders. Please get in touch if you are planning on coming
or if you are interested in facilitating a workshop/discussion. The sooner
we have an idea of numbers the better.
Cheers.
