 Aicap,
Good news! The U.S. House of Representatives passed a prison reform
bill, the FIRST STEP Act, H.R. 5682. Prison reform is on the move, but
it is not a law yet. Now, it goes to the U.S. Senate, which can decide
to pass it, change it, or do nothing and let it die.
We are going to urge the U.S. Senate to improve the bill and pass it.
The FIRST STEP Act includes many good reforms that would help the
183,000 people in federal prison, and their families. But it does not
include sentencing reforms. We will work with senate leaders to
improve and pass a criminal justice reform bill that does as much as
we can get done this year. We know families are hurting and need all
the relief they can get right now.
The best way you can help is by coming to our rally and lobby day in
Washington, D.C., on July 10 and 11. We will gather together to tell
lawmakers that reform can't wait — and families can't wait. RSVP
today for two great days of advocacy in D.C.!
Thank you for supporting our work in so many ways!
Best,
Kevin Ring
President, FAMM
P.S. Can't make it to D.C.? You can still help us by writing your U.S.
Senators and telling them to improve and pass the FIRST STEP Act this
year. Email your senators today!
